Futures evaluation
Practice the Apex evaluation with its real trailing drawdown
Apex sells two evaluations, and they are not the same challenge. The Intraday Trail account has a threshold that follows your live equity and no daily loss limit. The End of Day Trail account moves its threshold once a day and adds a daily loss limit. Both are built in, for the 25K, 50K, 100K and 150K accounts.

Apex evaluation rules, both accounts
Apex Evaluation: Intraday Trail
| Account | Profit target | Max loss | Daily loss |
|---|---|---|---|
| $25,000 | $1,500 (6%) | $1,000 (4%) | None |
| $50,000 | $3,000 (6%) | $2,000 (4%) | None |
| $100,000 | $6,000 (6%) | $3,000 (3%) | None |
| $150,000 | $9,000 (6%) | $4,000 (2.67%) | None |
- Max loss type: Trailing, intraday
- Floor stops moving: Once it reaches your starting balance
- Trading day resets: 5:00 PM New York time
- Minimum trading days: 1
- Time limit: None
- Best day (consistency): No rule
The floor follows your highest live equity, open profit included. A trade that runs up and comes back has already pulled the floor up behind it.

| $50,000 | $3,000 (6%) | $2,000 (4%) | $1,000 (2%) |

| $150,000 | $9,000 (6%) | $4,000 (2.67%) | $2,000 (1.33%) |
- Max loss type: Trailing, end of day
- Floor stops moving: Once it reaches your starting balance
- Trading day resets: 5:00 PM New York time (the daily loss resets here)
- Minimum trading days: 1
- Time limit: None
- Best day (consistency): No rule
The floor moves up only at the end of a trading day, off your highest closing balance. During the day it stands still, but your live equity, open trades included, is checked against it all day.

Apex trailing drawdown: intraday and end of day, side by side
Both accounts open the same way. On a 50K evaluation the threshold sits at $48,000, $2,000 under your $50,000 starting balance.
On the Intraday Trail account the threshold follows your highest live equity, open profit included. A trade that runs $600 into profit and comes back to breakeven has already pulled the threshold up by $600. You are flat on the day and $600 closer to failing. It is easy to read and hard to feel until you have watched it happen to a trade of your own.
On the End of Day Trail account the threshold moves only when the trading day closes, off your closing balance. Swings during the day do not move it, though your live equity is still checked against it. In exchange this account has a daily loss limit, $1,000 on the 50K.
On both accounts the threshold stops moving once it reaches your starting balance of $50,000. The evaluation is passed at $53,000, with at least one trading day on the record.
Which account to practice
Practice the one you intend to buy, because the two reward different trading. The intraday trail punishes letting a winner run and then fade: every tick of open profit becomes risk the moment it is gone. Traders who take fixed targets barely notice it. Traders who trail stops and scale out feel it on every trade.
The end-of-day trail forgives the intraday swing and charges for it somewhere else, with a daily loss limit that ends the day early. The simulator treats a daily loss limit as a hard stop: touch it and the attempt is over. If your firm only pauses you for the rest of the day, your practice is slightly stricter than the real thing, which is the right direction to be wrong in.
Apex rebuilt its whole account line-up on 1 March 2026. If you are reading advice written before that date, the rules it describes may no longer exist.
Risk check: at 0.5% a trade ($250) on a 50K Apex EOD, 8 full losses in a row reach the $2,000 max loss, 4 in one day reach the $1,000 daily loss limit, and 6 winners at 2R reach the $3,000 target. Plain arithmetic from a fresh account. On the page you can change the account size and the risk.
What the simulator covers
- Profit target and trailing threshold for the 25K, 50K, 100K and 150K accounts, in the dollar amounts Apex quotes
- The intraday trail, following live equity with open profit included
- The end-of-day trail, moving once per trading day, with its daily loss limit
- Both thresholds stopping at the starting balance
- A trading day that rolls at 5:00 PM New York time, and the one-trading-day minimum
What it does not cover
- Contract limits are not enforced
- The consistency rule. Apex applies it to payouts on a funded account, not to the evaluation, and the funded stage is not simulated
- Flat-by-close times and news restrictions are not enforced, and neither is any calendar deadline on the evaluation
- Equity is checked at every replay step, not tick by tick. A spike inside one bar that fully recovers can go unseen, which matters most on the intraday trail
Apex Trader Funding practice questions
What is the difference between intraday trailing and end-of-day trailing drawdown?
An intraday trailing threshold follows your highest live equity, so open profit you later give back still raises it. An end-of-day trailing threshold moves only when the trading day closes, based on your closing balance. Both are checked against live equity all day. The intraday version is the stricter of the two for anyone who lets winners run.
Does the Apex trailing threshold include unrealized profit?
On the Intraday Trail account, yes: the threshold follows live equity, open trades included. On the End of Day Trail account the threshold moves on your closing balance only. The simulator follows the same logic and updates at every replay step.
Is there a daily loss limit in the Apex evaluation?
Not on the Intraday Trail account. That is the rule, not a gap in our data. The End of Day Trail account has one, and the table above shows the amount for each account size.
Is there a consistency rule in the Apex evaluation?
Not in the evaluation. Apex applies its consistency rule later, to payouts on a funded account, and BacktestingMax simulates the evaluation only.
Is there a free way to practice the Apex evaluation?
Prop firm mode is free on every BacktestingMax plan, with both Apex accounts built in. Futures data such as ES, NQ, CL and GC is part of Premium, so on the free plan you run the same trailing rules on gold or forex. BacktestingMax is an independent simulator and is not connected to Apex.
Are these the current Apex rules?
They were checked against Apex's own published rules on the date shown above the tables. Apex changes its line-up more often than most firms, so confirm the numbers with Apex before you buy an evaluation.

Hypothetical or simulated performance results have certain limitations. Unlike an actual performance record, simulated results do not represent actual trading. Also, since the trades have not been executed, the results may have under- or over-compensated for the impact, if any, of certain market factors, such as lack of liquidity. Simulated trading programs in general are also subject to the fact that they are designed with the benefit of hindsight. No representation is being made that any account will or is likely to achieve profit or losses similar to those shown.
