Connect an AI app

With Pro, you can connect your BacktestingMax account to AI apps: Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed and others. You can then ask for backtests, market stats and strategy changes right in that app's chat, and it works with your own saved strategies, sessions and projects.

The address

https://mcp.backtestingmax.com/mcp

Three steps

  1. In your AI app, add a new connector (some apps call it an MCP server) and paste the address above.
  2. A BacktestingMax page opens. Sign in if asked, check the app name, then click Allow.
  3. Back in your AI app, turn the connector on in a chat and ask something, for example: "Backtest an RSI strategy on EURUSD, 15 minutes, 2024, and show me the drawdown."

Where to add it in each app

These apps move their menus around often. If yours looks different, look for Connectors, Integrations or MCP servers.

Chat apps

Claude (claude.ai and the desktop app)

  1. Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
  2. Name it BacktestingMax, paste the address, click Add, then Connect.
  3. In a chat, click + → Connectors and turn BacktestingMax on.

Once added, it also works in the Claude phone app. Free Claude accounts can add one custom connector.

ChatGPT

  1. Turn on Developer mode (paid ChatGPT plans): Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced → Developer mode.
  2. Create a connector, name it BacktestingMax, paste the address and choose OAuth.
  3. In a chat, turn the BacktestingMax connector on.

Le Chat (Mistral) Connectors → Add Connector → Custom MCP Connector tab. Name it BacktestingMax, paste the address and click Connect.

Perplexity (paid plans) Settings → Connectors → Custom connector → Remote. Paste the address and choose OAuth. Add it from the website; the phone apps may not show the custom option.

Coding agents and editors

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http backtestingmax https://mcp.backtestingmax.com/mcp

Then type /mcp in Claude Code and pick backtestingmax to sign in.

Codex (OpenAI's CLI and IDE extension)

codex mcp add backtestingmax --url https://mcp.backtestingmax.com/mcp
codex mcp login backtestingmax

Gemini CLI Add this to ~/.gemini/settings.json, then run /mcp auth backtestingmax inside Gemini CLI:

{ "mcpServers" : { "backtestingmax" : { "httpUrl" : "https://mcp.backtestingmax.com/mcp" , "oauth" : { "enabled" : true } } } }

Cursor Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json. Cursor opens the sign-in page the first time you use it:

{ "mcpServers" : { "backtestingmax" : { "url" : "https://mcp.backtestingmax.com/mcp" } } }

VS Code (GitHub Copilot) Command Palette → MCP: Add Server → HTTP → paste the address and name it backtestingmax. VS Code opens the sign-in page when the server starts.

Windsurf In Cascade, click the MCPs icon → add a custom server with the address. Or add this to ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json (note serverUrl, not url):

{ "mcpServers" : { "backtestingmax" : { "serverUrl" : "https://mcp.backtestingmax.com/mcp" } } }

Zed Settings → AI → MCP Servers → Add Remote Server → paste the address. Zed asks you to sign in.

Any other app

Any app that can add a remote MCP server with sign-in (OAuth) works: paste the address and sign in when it asks. If an app only offers an API key or a token and no sign-in, it can't connect; BacktestingMax doesn't hand out API keys.

What the app can do

  • Run backtests, optimizations and market stats.
  • Read your strategies, backtesting sessions and projects.
  • Save strategies, indicators and project notes to your account.

It can't delete anything, and it can't change your plan or billing.

Disconnect an app

In BacktestingMax: Account → Account → Connected AI apps → Disconnect. The app loses access straight away. To use it again, connect it again from the app.

If something goes wrong

  • "This sign-in link has expired": the Allow page works for 15 minutes. Go back to your AI app and connect again.
  • You created your account while connecting: you land on the Home page instead of the Allow page. Go back to your AI app and connect again; you are signed in now, so it goes straight to Allow.
  • The app says it isn't connected: open the connector in your AI app and sign in again. This also happens if you haven't used it for 30 days or if you disconnected it.
